About Sanity

Sanity is a hosted, real-time content backend with a customisable editing UI (Sanity Studio) and a query language (GROQ) that developers use to feed websites, apps and AI agents. Its Free plan is one of the roomier ones in headless CMS, and it is "$0 forever" rather than a trial.

What the free plan gives you

Up to 20 user seats, 2 datasets (public only), 10,000 documents, and 2 permission roles (Administrator and Viewer). API allowances are 250k API requests and 1m CDN requests a month, with 100 GB of asset storage and 100 GB of bandwidth. You also get 2 GROQ-powered webhooks, 500 embeddings queries a month, 1,000 AI credits a month and 500k function invocations. Unlimited content types and locales, and the Studio is open source and self-hostable on Vercel or Netlify.

Where the free plan stops

Private datasets are the usual trigger: anything with draft content that must not be publicly readable needs Growth. The 10k document ceiling and the two-role model (no Editor or Contributor roles) are the other pinch points for larger teams. Growth is $15 per seat per month and raises you to 50 seats, private datasets, 25k documents, 5 roles and 4 webhooks, with overage pricing on assets and bandwidth. Enterprise is custom.

Who it suits

A marketing site, portfolio, docs site or side project with a handful of editors sits comfortably inside the Free plan for years. Agencies handling client content that must stay private, or catalogues past 10k documents, should plan on Growth from day one.
