About Replit

Replit is a browser-based development environment that has shifted toward AI agents: you describe an app, Replit Agent builds and deploys it. Students, hobbyists and non-developers use it to ship apps without local setup. The free tier is the Starter plan.

What the free plan gives you

Starter is free and includes daily agent credits under what Replit calls free daily usage, so you can prompt the agent each day without paying, though the pricing page does not state the exact credit amount. You can create anything from slides to full apps, use the built-in database, publish 1 live project and run one background task at a time. The editor, hosted workspace and collaboration basics are all in.

Where the free plan stops

The single published project and the one-at-a-time background task are the hard limits, and the daily credit allowance runs out quickly if you lean on the agent for real builds. Projects also carry a Made with Replit badge. The Core plan at $20 a month ($17 a month billed annually) gives more free agent usage, $20 of monthly credit toward the most powerful models, plan mode, unlimited workspaces and removes the badge. Pro is $100 a month for 10 parallel agents, up to 15 collaborators and 28-day database rollback.

Who it suits

Learners, people testing whether AI app building is for them, and anyone who needs one small live app should use Starter and see how far the daily credits go. If you are building for clients or want to publish more than one project, Core is the practical floor, and heavy agent users should assume model credits will be an ongoing cost on top of the subscription.

The free plan in practice

What you can actually do on Replit's free plan (Starter plan: 1 published project, daily agent credits), where it stops, and when it's worth paying.

What you can do free

  • Daily agent credits at no cost
  • Publish 1 live project
  • Built-in database
  • Run one background task at a time
  • Browser IDE, no local setup
  • Create apps, slides and more from prompts

Where it stops

  • Only 1 published project
  • Daily credit allowance, exact amount not published
  • Made with Replit badge on projects
  • Single background task at a time

When to upgrade to a paid plan

Stay on the free plan while you're comfortably under the free plan's limit (Starter plan: 1 published project, daily agent credits). It's worth moving to a paid plan once you consistently bump into that ceiling, need to remove branding, or want features the free tier holds back. Paid plans start at $20/mo.
