Cursor

Cursor is a VS Code fork with an AI agent wired into the editor that can read your repo, make multi-file edits and run commands. Individual developers and startup teams use it as their primary IDE. The Hobby plan is the free tier, with no card needed.

What the free plan gives you

Cursor describes Hobby as "Limited Agent requests" plus access to Composer, its in-house coding model. In practice you get the full editor, Tab completions and a bounded allowance of agent turns each month. Cursor does not publish a fixed number for the Hobby allowance on its pricing page, so treat it as enough for occasional use rather than a daily driver. New accounts have historically received a short Pro trial; check the current offer at signup.

Where the free plan stops

Hobby has no access to frontier models from other providers, no cloud agents, no MCPs, skills or hooks, and no Bugbot code review. The Pro plan at $20 a month adds extended Agent limits, frontier model access, cloud agents, MCP support and usage-based Bugbot. Pro+ (3x Pro limits) and Ultra (20x) are for heavy users. Teams is $40 per user per month with SSO, centralised billing and usage analytics.

Who it suits

Hobby is fine for evaluating whether the agent workflow suits you and for light editing sessions. If you write code every day the allowance runs out quickly, and since Cursor does not publish the number, budget for Pro if you plan to rely on it.
