Anytype is a local-first, encrypted workspace for notes, tasks, databases and chat, built by a Swiss association and open source. People who want a Notion-style tool without their data sitting on someone else's server use it. The Free tier is not time limited: everything works on your device, and the only caps are on remote backup storage and shared channels.

Where the free plan stops

• 100 MB of remote storage. Attach images and PDFs and your devices will stop syncing through the backup node once you exceed it, falling back to local-only sync.
• 10 shared channels.
• No ANY ID, the custom handle used for web publishing.

Plus at $4 a month raises remote storage to 1 GB with unlimited shared channels and an ANY ID. Pro at $8 a month gives 10 GB and Ultra at $16 a month gives 100 GB. Yearly billing is 20% cheaper, and students and educators get 50% off.

Who it suits

The Free tier suits a solo note-taker who mostly works in text and wants their data on their own machine. Heavy media users and small teams sharing many spaces should expect to pay $4 to $8 a month, or self-host if they have the patience.
