About Appwrite

Appwrite is a developer tools tool for building and shipping software. In its own words: Build like a team of hundreds with Appwrite's all-in-one, open-source infrastructure. Launch in minutes, use any framework, and scale affordably with Auth, Database, Storage, Functions, Realtime, Messaging, and Sites….

What the free plan gives you

Free plan for hobby projects. Taken from Appwrite's own pricing page, the free plan includes 5GB bandwidth; 2GB storage; 750K executions; 75K monthly active users.

Because Appwrite is open source, the ceiling is your own infrastructure rather than a billing page. Self-hosting costs nothing but your time, and a hosted plan is there if you would rather not run it.

What it does

Appwrite covers auth, databases, products, sweaters, storage.

When you would pay

You may never need to. The free tier is not a funnel step here, so the sensible move is to use it until something it genuinely cannot do forces the question.

We list Appwrite because the free plan was checked against its own pricing page, not because a vendor asked. If it has changed, tell us and we will re-check it.

The free plan in practice

What you can actually do on Appwrite's free plan (Free plan for hobby projects), where it stops, and when it's worth paying.

What you can do free

  • 5GB bandwidth
  • 2GB storage
  • 750K executions
  • 75K monthly active users
  • Community support
  • 1 Database, 1 Bucket, 2 Functions per project
  • 15-minute build timeouts
  • 2TB bandwidth

Where it stops

  • No major limitations beyond the plan's usage limits.

When to upgrade to a paid plan

Appwrite is open source, so self-hosting is free and unlimited. The only reason to pay is convenience: choose a hosted or cloud option when you'd rather not run and maintain it yourself, or need official support.
